About Dr. Robert M. Miller
After graduation from Colorado State University, Dr. Miller settled in Thousand Oaks, California, where he founded the Conejo Valley Veterinary Clinic. Thirty-one years later, he retired as a renowned veterinarian and expert in ethology (the study of animal behavior). Dr. Miller has visited every continent giving lectures to colleges, conventions for animal groups, horse organizations, breed associations and other clients. He has received numerous professional awards for his involvement with equine associations, production of videotapes, and lecturing. He has authored several books, and his acute sense of humor and love of cartoons have provided seven veterinary cartoon books.
Dr. Miller retired from his veterinary practice in 1987 in order to devote his full time to the teaching of equine behavior and to support the revolution in horsemanship that began in the Western United States in the late 20th Century and is now a worldwide phenomenon. He is best known for his scientifically based system of training newborn foals. Called imprint training, if done correctly, it is the fastest, and most profound method of permanently shaping a horse's responses and attitude. Imprint training is now in use all over the world.

Safer Horsemanship with Robert Miller, DVM DVD 85 Minutes $39.95
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT HORSE VIDEOS EVER MADE. Horsemanship, like so many other of life’s most enjoyable and most fulfilling pursuits, can be potentially hazardous. Too many horses and too many people handling them are injured, primarily because people have never learned the rules of safe horsemanship. In this video, Dr. Miller shows the safety techniques learned during his 40-plus years as an equine veterinarian, and a lifetime as a horseman. Information is given about why and when handling horses may be risky, and how to minimize these risks by simply utilizing the rules of Safer Horsemanship. The video covers safety while performing routine health care such as taking temperatures, examining ears, medicating eyes, worming, cleaning hooves, and sheath and udder cleaning, as well as safety while catching, tying, tacking and untacking, riding, horse housing, and handling.

UNDERSTANDING HORSES And Using That Knowledge To Solve Common Behavior Problems with Robert M. Miller, DVM DVD 2 Hours 15 Minutes $39.95
Have you ever wondered why some horses shy from a piece of paper, or won’t step in a shallow puddle? Horses’ reactions are not the same as ours. This can be very frustrating when interacting with them. The horse, like each animal species, has specific genetically-coded behavioral characteristics that enable it to survive in its natural environment. Dr. Miller explains these ten qualities in horses, helping us to understand them and enabling us to shape and modify their behavior without the use of cruelty or physical force. These are the techniques currently employed by the Natural Horsemen who are revolutionizing horsemanship. Now you can learn why their methods work! With this videotape, you’ll bring new understanding and enjoyment to your own equine relationships. Dr. Miller will also show you how to solve common problems, (disrespectful, hard to catch, shying, balking, needle-shy, barn sour/heard bound, and more) using this information in a thoughtful, stress-free manner.
